Being away from home can be tough

And when home is a completely different culture a thousand miles away, it can be even tougher. That's why the warm embrace of a College community can make all the difference. "One of the things I really appreciate is the genuine niceness of everyone," Myckhaila Joab says.

"People are so caring and supportive. Everyone knows everybody. The students, the staff, the faculty all care about everyone as a person." Small classes and concerned professors also help, Myckhaila says. The professors know you as a person and guide you toward a productive life after college. So her advice for international students is: "You're going to be missing home but that's okay. People will look out for you."
